I travel often and as much as I can, and I can travel equally easily after a planning for six months or six hours. Some of my family members say that I’m a pro at travelling and I don’t deny it, haha. I mean, there is a scope for improvement for me when it comes to packing less clothes, but overall I am pretty cool with packing and travelling.
And a lot of credit for my travel ease skills goes to my being an Army Wife. Yes!
I think all Indian Army Wives are pros at packing, travelling and settling down at a new place. It’s part of the job description, in a way. And, all Army Families are pros at travelling.
Travelling often, getting Tatkal (emergency) tickets in trains or booking last minute air tickets, living out of a suitcase – or a trunk int his case, until you get a permanent acco – is nothing new for an Army family. And it’s all part of the fun, right?
But one things that has always bugged me when we need to travel without much warning or preparation, is the high cost of Air Tickets. Sure, there are a few airlines that offer special prices for Armed Forces Personnel, but experience tells me that the process isn’t as simple as these airlines claim, and one can rarely avail these special prices or discounts because of one reason or another.
The result is, we end up travelling on very high ticket costs.
Recently, I found out about udChalo and was pleasantly surprised. This is an air ticketing platform that is dedicated to Army – Ex Servicemen, Indian Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces including Dependents. Pretty damn cool, right?
So naturally, I am sharing this great find here for all my Army Family readers who have faced the same issue of highly priced tickets for their travels.
Hope you find udChalo useful, and I also hope that between serving the country, guarding the borders and putting your country before yourself – services like these will make life easier for you and your families.
Here we go:
Everyday almost 40000 seats go vacant in domestic airlines yet more than 5000 Jawans from the Indian Armed Forces travel in general compartment due to unavailability of seats. Their family members and Veterans face similar problems. Last minute travel plans due to leave approvals at eleventh hour ensure an uncomfortable journey. Why should our men in uniform spend 2-3 days out of their minuscule leave travelling in trains?
Born and brought up in an Army Background and graduates from Army Institute of technology, these were things the udChalo founders wanted to fix. They wanted our soldiers to travel conveniently with the respect they deserve. Thus udChalo came into existence offering concessional air tickets to the Indian Armed Forces.
On booking with udChalo, you get concessional air fare even one day before your flight.
With 3 major partner airlines currently, they get a little over 5000 seats everyday to sell to the armed forces. The team is in negotiations with two other major airlines.
udChalo has become a trusted name in defence forces when it comes to last-minute flight reservations at discounted fares since the past 2 years.
Another good thing about udChalo is that they are committed to recruiting employees with defence background preferably war widows/ war disabled/ veterans/ dependants.
They know that a lot of people still rely on travel agents for booking because some may not be comfortable with online booking while some may not have access to the internet. This is why they have set up travel desks for easy ticket booking.
udChalo has its own offline travel desks at 3 army locations so far and are planning to open 20 such counters pan India by end of next year.
I hope you try this, and find it helpful. And if you book through udChalo, let me know about your booking experience.
