Trip to Thailand: Try Ithaka!

Planning a Trip to Thailand? Then You’ll find this post helpful.

As you set out for Ithaka

hope your road is a long one,

full of adventure, full of discovery.

-Ithaka, P.Cavafy

How often have you wished that when you’re in a foreign country, all set to explore the streets, the food and the culture – that there was someone to guide you through it all? We all have our own style of travelling, some prefer Solo Travel, others like to travel in groups and there is a lot in between. But everyone will agree when I say that we all wish there was someone, some sort of reliable expert, who is easily approachable and can guide us quickly in seemingly simple yet pretty taxing travel related tasks like figuring out the best route, or the next attraction to check out while you’re in an area.

When I was travelling all through Singapore with just a map that I picked up from the Changi Airport (how unbelievably amazing is that airport anyway?), and my camera, walking as much as I could and taking the metro to whichever place caught my fancy – there were times when I wished I had a dependable help in figuring out the best routes from A to B, so that I don’t waste my time taking the wrong Metro Line, or to tell me the best thing to do for a couple of hours in X while I wait for a particular event to start, or where to go for getting some currency changed while in area Z.

Although I like exploring destinations on my own, I have often wished there was some way to plan my trip or day wise itinerary – according to my specific needs and taste. Something that is catered to me, and specifically my needs – and is delivered immediately, preferably on the go.

Recently, I am planning a Trip to Thailand and reading up a lot about it.

Planning a Trip to Thailand? Ithaka will help.

That is how I discovered Ithaka – a friendly and super easy travel based app. When someone first shared the link with me, I thought eh, another travel platform, yawn. But being a travel enthusiast and a sucker for anything related to new ways of travelling, I checked it out anyway. And thank God I did, because the idea appealed to me instantly. I mean, a trip planned by folks who know the place inside out, according to your specific needs, and for free? What’s not to love, right?

How Ithaka functions is that travellers come to them when they plan a trip to Thailand and want to make an itinerary that is a perfect for them. Ithaka understands their preferences, budget and other constraints before they plan a trip together via a phone-chat through the app. Deciding the places to visit, how much time to spend there, where to sleep, what to do, how to get around – they cover everything, keeping the traveller’s personal preferences in mind. This results in a tailor-made Trip To Thailand.

Ithaka says that most of their travellers continue to be in touch with them throughout their trip, and Ithaka helps them with contextual info while in-destination as well. How convenient is that? And like I said, it’s all free! Yes.

The Ithaka App is available for both, IOS and Android and you can download it on your phone for a quick and easy expert help about almost everything in Thailand.

I also want to add here that I admire the founders for their vision. We often come across real life stories about people who took the roads less travelled and followed their passion, their true calling, instead of the regular stuff that’s expected of them – and some of them strike a chord. The story of Ithaka is the same for me. One of the founder, Ameya Sahasrabudhe, quit his well-paying and, er, stable job in the oil and gas industry to see where his wanderlust took him. Something like this not only requires sheer guts, but also a certain amount of madness that makes you stray from the mundane without the fear of falling. I wish more of us had the same zeal and the same touch of fervent madness to pursue our passions, because Confucius rightly said –

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Interesting, isn’t it? And so, so true.

And coming back to the main subject, if you Travel to Thailand any time soon and want to get help in figuring out your day-to-day itinerary according to your particular taste, free and on-the-go, try Ithaka. Very soon, Ithaka will be offering their services in Singapore and Malaysia as well. They aim to cover all of South East Asia by the end of 2016, which is more good news to us travel addicts. I am looking forward to my trip to Thailand soon, when I can simply explore and enjoy the destination with expert help right on my phone.

So, the next time you’re in Thailand (or SE Asia), I will wrap this up by quoting the poem itself:

“Keep Ithaka always in your mind.”

Happy Travelling!
