I am more of a Travel Lover than a Travel Blogger, I enjoy the travel and the exploring-new-places thing too much to be regular at finding technology to blog about it in real time. I can get lost in a national park as easily as I can in a shopping mall. For me, Travel has always been about passion, about the undying love for the outdoors and about the thrill of exploring new places – and this is exactly what I write about – My experience as someone who loves to take off almost every month, to journeys that later become a part of me. Isn’t that how it should be, hm?
And it seems to be working too, because this blog right here, it gets its maximum traffic to my travel posts. Travel in Style seems to be attracting a lot of traffic from the U.S of A and it has given me a false confidence that I can maybe become a fashion blogger? No? Okay, just checking. Another super duper Box-Office Record Breaker post is 5 Offbeat Himalayan Getaways That Should Be On Your Travel Bucket List, getting people from all over the globe and helping me feel good about still writing a blog when most blogger-turned-authors have now turned their blogs into Link Lists where they write posts with links to their paid-posts elsewhere. Not me, I have never ditched blogging, never will (hopefully), hand on my heart. Honest.
Anyway, I am nominated for this exciting Liebster Award by the very cool Pilgrim With a Plan and I’m thrilled to take my Travel Blogging forward with it.
The Liebster Award is chain of blog-posts for bloggers who love to travel, and is a way to learn, share, connect and have fun! Everyone gets 11 questions from your nominator, and then you nominate five other bloggers to answer 11 questions you’ve made up. Fun, right?
Being a Travel Blogger is fun!
So here’s I go:
1) What’s one piece of clothing you always pack no matter where you go (other than underwear)?
Other than really, really nice and fancy lingerie, to make me feel good from inside, despite the tan and the frizzy hair – I always carry too many extra pairs of socks. I don’t know, the fear of having to spend a cold night (winter or AC, whatever) without my feet covered in warm soft socks is probably the only fear I face when it come to traveling.
2) What has been your strangest travel experience?
Well, I once hiked to a village in Arunanchal Pradesh and ate some sort of a creepy-crawly worm mix fried with local green veggies and strangely, it wan’t bad once I decided to look past the worm thing. Seriously. It’s all in the mind. If the locals can eat it, you can too. That is a part about being a Travel Blogger you have to embrace.
3) What is it about travel that gets you excited?
The journey. I love to be in transit. Arriving at your destination is overrated. The real thrill is in the travel.
4) Who do you love travelling with the most (and it can include yourself)?
I enjoy travels the most with my group of friends. It sounds a little Sex And The City, The Movie 2 inspired, but travelling with my girl friends is the best. A close second is my husband because he is an amazing planner and takes very good care of me (as in, might pack an extra pair of socks for me, along with a supply of chocolates and energy bars)
5) Are you a hostel or hotel stayer and why?
Hotel mostly, because of the toddler. Alone, I can stay anywhere, couch surf or home stay, but with my daughter, I prefer hotels.
6) What is the most annoying part of travel for you?
The wait. Once the travel is all planned and tickets, stay is all booked, the wait for the departure date becomes unbearable for me.
7) What are most of your travel snaps of? Buildings/nature/people? And why?
Me. Us, I mean. I click buildings, scenic sights and people, but maximum pictures will be of us because I believe that us being in those pictures is the best way to look back and remember the trip. As for pictures of places and touristy sights, you can always Google and remember, no?
8) What is the one website you always consult to get tips before you travel?
As a Travel Blogger, I tend to check Trip Advisor for reviews, thought I don’t always believe what I read. As a normal traveller, I generally prefer to ask friends who have been to the place because nothing’s better than getting real advice and pointers. Its a mix of both, really.
9) Where’s the one place you would visit over and over again and never get bored of?
In my country, I will never be bored of Delhi. I’ve studied and worked there, but the city still surprises me. In international travel, it’s definitely Hong Kong. For some reason, I feel a strong connect to it and I can go back again and again and againnn and not get bored. I have’t been to Thailand yet, but I think I might like it too. Let’s see. I want to see so many new places and the Travel Blogger in me is rearing to explore a lot more this year. Fingers crossed!
10) What do you ensure you learn/know about a country before visiting?
Learn: Currency conversion and basic laws of the country. Like, littering on the street is a punishable offence in Singapore, and in Minnesota, USA, it is against the law to hang female and male underwear together on the same washing line. True story, bro! Might as well learn them before you commit a crime unknowingly.
Know: All Must-Do things, in order of awesomeness.
11) What is your favorite part of being a Travel Blogger?
When you get a random email from someone you don’t know, asking for help in planning a trip. Totally amazing, right? I recently got a mail from a couple in Berlin, who were panning their Delhi Trip and they wrote to me asking for a few things. Being a Travel Blogger is especially fun at such times, right? Last month, I got a Facebook message from a girl in Pune, asking me to go through her week-long Singapore plan, and tell her if I think it’s okay. She wrote that she read my Singapore Trip post and decided to ask a real person instead of search engines and travel portals. Bring out the drums now, please.
